Ruby was born on september 8 1954 to abon and lucille bridges in tylertown mississippi. At six years old ruby s bravery helped pave the way for civil rights action in the american south. She is now chair of the ruby bridges foundation which she formed in 1999 to promote the values of tolerance respect and appreciation of all differences. Forty six years after integrating a new orleans elemtary school ruby bridges is back this time on her own accord to save the school. But the contribution of ruby remained immortal in the history books. Ruby bridges was the first african american child to integrate an all white public elementary school in the south.

She later became a civil rights activist. Ruby the eldest among her five siblings was born on a lower middle class family working to make their ends meet. She was the first african american child to desegregate william frantz elementary school. Bridges now ruby bridges hall still lives in new orleans with her husband malcolm hall and their four sons.
